An invitation for you, my global friends

Every year I look back on my site stats and every year I am astounded at the reach my little blog has. I know the numbers are small compared to other sites, but they’re big to me. Over the past year my blog was accessed by 5,297 unique visitors 6,522 times across 107 countries. Of the 51 posts that were accessed in 2023, far and away the most read posts were “What Does God is My Fortress Mean”, and “Was Jesus Afraid to Die?”, in a remote third place is my old post from the archives about Texas memes. The first two posts mentioned account for over 70% of my blog’s clicks. So it seems like my site is finding a lot of people who are seeking God.

Ole Hallesby had this to say about those who are seeking God:

“‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him and will sup with him, and he with me.’ – Revelation 3:30

I doubt that I know of a passage in the whole Bible which throws greater light upon prayer than this one does. It is, it seems to me, the key which opens the door into the holy and blessed realm of prayer.

To pray is to let Jesus come into our hearts.

This teaches us, in the first place, that it is not our prayer which moves the Lord Jesus. It is Jesus who moves us to pray. He knocks. Thereby he makes known His desire to come in to us. Our prayers are always a result of Jesus knocking at our hearts’ doors.”

Prayer by Ole Hallesby

So, if you’re here looking for answers about who Jesus is, please just know that he has already been looking for you.

This year I read through the Bible Recap reading plan which takes readers through the Bible in a year. I use this plan on the Youversion Bible app, but you could also use your own paper Bible if you want. This is my second time to do it, and I just started yesterday on my third trip through this reading plan. It’s a daily reading, just a few chapters, that takes you through the Bible chronologically, followed by a short recap via The Bible Recap Podcast. At the end of 2023 Tara Leigh Cobble, the writer and creator of the plan and podcast, challenged her listeners to invite two people from other countries to read along through the reading plan for 2024. I wanted to participate, but I don’t have two friends in other countries.

Or, I thought I didn’t.

It occurs to me now that through this blog, I have hundreds of foreign friends. If you’re reading this from anywhere, would you please join me reading through the Bible in 2024 via the Bible Recap reading plan and podcast? If you choose to do so, please consider this blog post like an online visitor’s book, and leave me a comment of where you are reading from, and we will read together across the world.
